New corporate advisory practice for Australian tech companies
Corporate advisory house Cube Capital has just launched in Australia, with a plan to capitalise on the boom in tech and healthcare stocks and take them public.
Cube Capital advises middle market Australian and international clients on investment banking transactions. The company is particularly focused on deals within the information technology, media, telecommunications, healthcare and life sciences sectors.
“We assist Australian and international clients undergoing a merger, acquisition, divestment, capital raising or public listing on a stock exchange, including the ASX,” explained veteran entrepreneur and Cube Capital partner Hani Iskander.
“We also advise inbound and outbound clients with cross-border transactions such as establishment of joint ventures, distribution channels and offshore partnerships.”
Iskander stated that though Australia’s tech sector is substantial, there are only 41 companies listed on the ASX with a market capitalisation of more than $100 million and 54 companies exceeding $50 million. Cube Capital has identified three main reasons for why traditional privately held technology companies shy away from listing on the ASX: the knowledge gap, reluctance to be held ‘accountable’ and fear of having to answer to public shareholders.
But Cube Capital wants its clients to know that ASX-listed companies gain more prestige, visibility and respect by clients and business partners. They also gain the ability to raise capital, grow their valuation and divest equity at any time in small or large parcels.
“With the ASX focusing on shifting from the mining boom to the tech boom, now is an opportunity for Australian tech companies to develop strategies to enter this growing market,” Iskander said.
“There is room to double the number of tech companies on the ASX in the next four to five years if and when we can help guide them through a listing.”
